Funcionalidad cognitiva y calidad de vida en los adultos mayores en el Centro Geriátrico Militar – Chorrillos, 2024

Abstract

La presente investigación, aborda la relación entre la función cognitiva y la calidad de vida en adultos mayores del Centro Geriátrico Militar de Chorrillos, en el año 2024. A través de un estudio descriptivo y correlacional, se analizan las características sociodemográficas de la población, destacando que el 69% son mujeres y el 65% están casados, con una edad promedio de 72.78 años. Los hallazgos revelan que un alto porcentaje de los participantes presenta algún grado de deterioro cognitivo, con el 56.3% mostrando un deterioro moderado. En términos de calidad de vida, el 95% de los adultos mayores reportan problemas, siendo el 33.75% con problemas graves. Utilizando el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman, se establece que hay una asociación significativa entre funcionalidad cognitiva y la calidad de vida en diversas dimensiones: movilidad (p=0.028), cuidado personal (p=0.002), actividades cotidianas (p=0.000), dolor/malestar (p=0.008) y ansiedad/depresión (p=0.004). Para el análisis de la función cognitiva se utilizó el Mini examen del estado mental (MMSE) y para la calidad de vida se usó el Cuestionario EuroQol 5D (EQ-5D). concluyéndose que existe relación entre la funcionalidad cognitiva y la calidad de vida en adultos mayores del Centro Geriátrico Militar en Chorrillos, en el año 2024.

The present research addresses the relationship between cognitive functionality and quality of life in older adults of the Military Geriatric Center of Chorrillos, in the year 2024. Through a descriptive and correlational study, the sociodemographic characteristics of the population are analyzed, highlighting that 69% are women and 65% are married, with an average age of 72.78 years. The findings reveal that a high percentage of the participants present some degree of cognitive impairment, with 56.3% showing moderate impairment. In terms of quality of life, 95% of the older adults report problems, with 33.75% having severe problems. Using Spearman's correlation coefficient, it is established that there is a significant relationship between cognitive functionality and quality of life in several dimensions: mobility (p=0.028), self-care (p=0.002), activities of daily living (p=0.000), pain/discomfort (p=0.008) and anxiety/depression (p=0.004). For the analysis of cognitive functionality, the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used and for qualities of life, the EuroQuol-5D Questionnaire (EQ-5D) was used, concluding that there is a relationship between cognitive functionality and quality of life in older adults of the Military Geriatric Center of Chorrillos, in the year 2024.
