Acute respiratory infections are one of the main causes of illness and hospitalization in the pediatric population. In this context, molecular techniques such as multiplex PCR have improved the simultaneous detection of respiratory etiological agents and optimised clinical diagnosis. Objective: To determine the association between the results of multiplex PCR and clinical variables in pediatric patients with respiratory infections treated at Hospital Dos de Mayo during the year 2024. Methodology: A quantitative, applied, nonexperimental, retrospective, correlational and cross-sectional study was developed. The population and sample consisted of 90 clinical records of pediatric patients, using census sampling. The information was obtained through documentary analysis and processed in IBM SPSS Statistics version 27. For the statistical analysis, frequencies, percentages, Chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U were used, considering statistical significance of p < 0.05. Results: 57.8 % of the patients were male and the mean age was 2.48 years. Human rhinovirus/enterovirus was the most frequent etiologic agent (52.5%), while co-infections accounted for 21.3%. A significant association was found between the results of multiplex CRP and the use of antibiotics (p < 0.001), as well as with the length of hospitalization (p < 0.001). There was no significant association between the type of agent detected and the final medical diagnosis (p = 0.463). Conclusion: Multiplex CRP results are significantly associated with antibiotic use and hospitalization time in pediatric patients with respiratory infections.
