Manifestaciones bucales en pacientes con síndrome de Down del Centro Educativo Básico Especial del Agustino, Lima – 2024

Abstract

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo general determinar las diferentes manifestaciones bucales en pacientes con síndrome de Down del Centro Educativo Básico Especial en El Agustino, Lima – 2024. La población estuvo conformada por 100 alumnos inscritos en el año 2024. Al tratarse de un muestreo censal, se evaluó a todos los estudiantes para garantizar una cobertura exhaustiva. Asimismo, la investigación fue de tipo básica, con un enfoque cuantitativo, siguiendo un diseño descriptivo, no experimental y de corte transversal. Entre los resultados, se encontró que la gran mayoría de los pacientes tuvo muy bajo riesgo de caries dental, aunque el 23% de la dentición permanente presentó un nivel de muy alto riesgo. Respecto a la inflamación gingival, el 52% no mostró signos de inflamación, pero el 28% y 19% presentaron inflamación leve y moderada, respectivamente. Además, la higiene oral fue mayoritariamente regular (43%), mientras que la higiene buena alcanzó el 28% y la mala, el 22%. Además, la maloclusión Clase III fue la más prevalente (79% - 80%), junto con el escalón distal (77%). Por otro lado, las anomalías en tejidos blandos, destacaron la macroglosia y la lengua protusiva, ambas con una prevalencia del 78%, mientras la microdoncia fue la anomalía dentaria más común (11%). En conclusión, las manifestaciones bucales observadas en esta población de estudio reflejan la importancia de implementar estrategias integrales de prevención y tratamiento, enfocadas en la higiene oral, la dentición temporal y las alteraciones funcionales.

The main objective of this study was to determine the various oral manifestations in patients with Down syndrome at the Special Basic Education Center in El Agustino, Lima – 2024. The study population consisted of 100 students enrolled in the year 2024. As a census sampling was used, all students were evaluated to ensure comprehensive coverage. Likewise, the research was basic in nature, with a quantitative approach, employing a descriptive, non experimental, and cross-sectional design. Among the results, it was found that the vast majority of patients had a low risk of dental caries, although 23% of the permanent dentition presented a very high risk level. Regarding gingival inflammation, 52% showed no signs of inflammation, while 28% and 19% exhibited mild and moderate inflammation, respectively. In terms of oral hygiene, the majority of students had regular hygiene (43%), followed by good (28%) and poor hygiene (22%). In addition, Class III malocclusion was the most prevalent (79%–80%), along with distal step (77%). As for soft tissue anomalies, macroglossia and protruding tongue were the most common, both with a prevalence of 78%, while microdontia was the most frequent dental anomaly (11%). In conclusion, the oral manifestations observed in this study population highlight the importance of implementing comprehensive prevention and treatment strategies focused on oral hygiene, primary dentition, and functional disorders.
