Características clínicas pediátricas y estrés del cuidador de un centro de fisioterapia, Lima, 2025

Abstract

Los cuidadores de niños con características clínicas que asisten a un centro de fisioterapia en Lima enfrentan altos niveles de estrés, afectando su salud física y mental, lo que repercute en el cuidado de los menores. Un estudio realizado en 2025 en un centro fisioterapéutico con 77 cuidadores, en su mayoría mujeres jóvenes sin empleo formal, utilizó la Escala de Estrés Percibido (EEP-10) para evaluar el estrés. Los resultados mostraron que el 32.5% tienen un nivel de estrés alto, el 59.7% medio y el 7.8% bajo. En cuanto a la relación entre características clínicas pediátricas y el estrés del cuidador, se encontró que variables como afecciones neurológicas, musculoesqueléticas, discapacidad motora e intervenciones quirúrgicas no se relacionaron significativamente con el estrés. Sin embargo, la discapacidad cognitiva e independencia del niño sí mostraron una asociación significativa con el nivel de estrés del cuidador. Entre los niños, el 40.3% presentaban Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA), 12.9% Síndrome de Down, 32.5% parálisis cerebral infantil (PCI), y 14.3% displasia de cadera. La investigación concluyó que no existe una asociación relevante general entre las características clínicas pediátricas y el estrés del cuidado en un centro de fisioterapia, aunque algunas variables específicas sí influyen en ese estrés.

Caregivers of children with clinical conditions who attend a physical therapy center in Lima face high levels of stress, affecting their physical and mental health, which in turn impacts their care of the children. A study conducted in 2025 at a physical therapy center with 77 caregivers, mostly young women without formal employment, used the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) to assess stress. The results showed that 32.5% had high stress levels, 59.7% had medium stress levels, and 7.8% had low stress levels. Regarding the relationship between pediatric clinical characteristics and caregiver stress, variables such as neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, motor disabilities, and surgical interventions were not found to be significantly related to stress. However, cognitive impairment and child independence did show a significant association with caregiver stress levels. Among the children, 40.3% had autism spectrum disorder (ASD), 12.9% had Down syndrome, 32.5% had cerebral palsy (CP), and 14.3% had hip dysplasia. The research concluded that there is no overall significant association between pediatric clinical characteristics and caregiver stress, although some specific variables do influence that stress.
