| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: The conspiracy of silence (CS) is an agreement in which family members and healthcare professionals decide to withhold certain information about a patient's diagnosis or prognosis, with the intention of protecting the patient from the emotional impact of knowing their clinical condition. However, this situation can lead to uncertainty, anxiety, isolation, and difficulties in making therapeutic decisions for the patient. Objective: To analyze and synthesize the scientific evidence on the factors associated with and effects of the conspiracy of silence (CS) in oncology patients. Methods: A systematic review was conducted of studies published between 2015 and 2026 through searches of Scopus, PubMed, Web Of Science and SciELO, using Spanish and English descriptors combined with the Boolean operators AND, OR. Study selection followed PRISMA guidelines, and methodological quality was assessed using the CASP and JBI tools. Results: Six studies were included, showing that CS is a multifactorial phenomenon that, although it may be intended to protect the patient, is associated with adverse effects such as anxiety, confusion, loneliness, and lack of understanding. Conclusion: The available evidence suggests that CS is predominantly associated with negative effects, limiting patient autonomy and affecting the emotional well being of oncology patients. | en_US |
